At the start of the summer we gushed about The Two Romans beautiful country/Americana tinged single “Inside Your Heart”. We caught up with the two brothers for a quick interview.
COUGAR MICROBES: What time did you wake up today? Was it out of choice or necessity?
THE TWO ROMANS: 4:30am and NO it wasn’t my choice…well to some extent it is, cause I decided to grab the chance to play two support shows at so36 in Berlin and the cheapest flight is the earliest.
CM: Describe your sound to the uninitiated?
T2R: Banjo, Mandolin and the positive vibes on one hand and loads of energy, sweat and guitars on the other. We are a folk-rock band.
CM: What have been the highlights of your year (musically) so far?
T2R: Last summer we played at Taubertal Festival in Germany, which is huge for a newcomer band, Everlast was cut off for overplaying and he raged through the back of the stage where we were waiting for our turn to play. The FOH technician went missing after that J. We just had a sold out release party at Mokka Thun and our songs are fighting their way into the Swiss radios. But the best is yet to come! We are playing 3 big Swiss Festival this summer and are planning a little London tour for the end of September.
CM: How do you kill time on the road when on the road? hobbies/games?
T2R: We play chess, until Mattia gets sick of losing.
CM: What have been your favourite venues to play? Any Venues you hated?
T2R: We loved the Bierhübeli Bern, Mokka Thun and Exil Zürich. I personally hated a pub in London, just because the sound system was really rubbish. The owner felt bad for us.
CM: Are you able to write on the road or do you do this in your off time?
T2R: We write everywhere. Travelling can be so inspiring if you open your eyes and mind
CM:Is there a song you are simply sick of playing live?
T2R: Luckily not yet. The ones we don’t love either fall out of the repertoire of get a brand new arrangement.
CM: What is the songwriting process like for you?
T2R: There is no recipe it happens in different ways but it has a lot to do with discipline. Inspiration is less than 5% of the work and often you have to tickle your creativity to get a little inspired. The more tools you master the most efficient you will be.
CM: What is your favourite track of yours?
T2R: Personally I think that “Halfway” is pure genius.
CM: What is the most flattering thing you’ve read about yourselves?
T2R: That we are love children of Vikings and hipsters J
CM:What was the first record/tape/cd you ever bought?
T2R: “9” from fucking Eros Ramazzotti…why am I even answering this…
CM:What was the last song that got stuck in your head?
T2R: Izzy Bizu “White Tiger” we performed together for a TV interview and she killed it. The song was stuck for days.
CM: What was the last show you paid and queued up for?
T2R:“The Souls” & “Death by Chocolate” in Bern on Record Day 2016, the venue couldn’t hold the demand and a good third of the peeps had to go back home. I got in J
CM: If you had to bring one artist back from the dead in exchange for sending a living artist down ,which artists would it be and why??
T2R: I have a huge respect for Prince and he probably hasn’t yet settled in heaven and I hear hell is hot so I would send Beyonce to make some lemonade for the poor bastards down there.
