Headphone Hair is the alter ego of twenty something year old Ian Walters. To think that if it hadn’t been for a rock climbing knee injury Walters may never have started playing guitar but in a twist of fate his forced convalescence three years ago was met by him picking up the guitar. The result is his Debut EP ‘If This Means You…‘ which effortlessly fuses folk guitar patterns with an indie rock aesthetic sounding like an amalgamation of the recent output of Ben Gibbard and Sufjan Stevens.
Take lead single “Signs” for example; it’s built on a deceptively simple melodic progression that culminates in the brilliant growing chorus. Elsewhere the EP is littered with wonderful harmonies and a percussive pattern that doesn’t grab the limelight but knows how to augment the tracks. Vocally, Walters‘ use of multiple tracks really serve to fill the space but other than that the arrangements keep it simple allowing the tracks to shine through.
‘If This Means You…‘ is out now. Stay tuned for a full length album expected in 2017
