Foals return to centre stage both with the release of a new single as well as in their role in the intricate music video that accompanies it. Immediately, “Wake Me Up” is the first official release since keyboardist Edwin Congreave‘s departure so there is an extra focus to see how the new trio will fare. Incidentally and for what it’s worth, he gave the track his seal of approval so all is fine.
The good news is that “Wake Me Up” is a bit of a banger! The track feels more lively than much of the material that comprised the Oxford band’s ambitious 2019 double album “Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost“. This is perhaps illogical given the kind of year or so we’ve all just had but Yannis Philippakis and co appear intent on getting us up and grooving. With music that is contagious, it’s clear they have succeeded.
Foals will return with a new album in 2022 and we can’t wait!
