Vini Vicious strike me as the type of band that is too weird for the hip crowd and too pop for the rockers and yet, performing like their life depended on it. Throughout their output, it feels like they are operating with a chip on their shoulder and that every ounce of their spirit is thrust into their instruments.
For their single “New York” they explore some of the more melodic and, dare I say, introspective elements in their arsenal. Beneath its scuzzy veneer, the track is filled with hooks and twists. The video, helmed by budding director Gil Peled, offers a great companion piece to the song and in parallel is somewhat jarring but incredibly compelling.
too weird for the hip crowd and too pop for the rockers? Fuck those guys.
