Despite only showing up on my radar recently, WHY? rapidly rose to being the band I have played more than any other so far this year. This doesn’t entirely surprise me as I have been on a mission to play ‘Alopecia’ to everyone I’ve met since I got a feel for their standout track ‘The Hollows‘.
This latest album is dotted with dramatic musical landscapes and melodic twists. Their indie rock execution is a perfect vehicle for Yoni Wolf’s trademark nasal half-rap half-sung reflections. It is fitting that he comes from a hip-hop background as his preferred storytelling delivery is at times action-packed and at times tongue-in-cheek but always instantly quotable.
