Weekend Videos: The Glass Child – “The Year I Disappeared”

I wanted to turn my life into my art. My very existence into a poem. This is my story – it’s been a beautiful fight. It still is.

I am reading these words by Charlotte Eriksson (aka The Glass Child) while listening to the first single, “The Year I Disappeared“, out of her third album (!) that was funded fully through Pledge Music Campaign.

Her voice is childlike, and I remind myself that she is only 25, but the maturity and wholeness of her music and lyrics represents her journey. At the age of 18, Charlotte left all her familiar things behind and moved from Sweden to London on her own, to pursuit her art and music, without making any compromises.

This song indeed feels like a journey. For me it’s a rather emotional journey as well, not only because of the music, but also thanks to the imagery. And it’s as beautiful as the music. Charlotte‘s voice breaks and the listener can actually hear her pain and her honest attempt to find her way through obstacles.

I read somewhere that she once said her music had been her lifeline and that she wished that her songs would be like guiding lights for other people too. I’m glad to say that for me it worked.
