Los Espinas deliver slice of garage rock brilliance in “Shadowboxing”

People can be put off by the word timeless. They can think of a sideboard with a doily underneath a vase with Uncle Jack’s ashes in them. In musical terms I think if you can write a great song in our throwaway and consumerist age that could’ve have been a hit and stand up amongst the best in the decades gone by and it still be relevant and more importantly fresh today, then you have yourself a great song.

As steady as train, and as solid as steel, “Shadowboxing” by Los Espinas is a slice of garage rock brilliance. Familiar yet fresh, it’s skeletal structure is perfectly pop, with irresistible chorus vocal melodies that compliment the jangling guitars and powerhouse rhythm section. This, my friends, is a timeless hit.

Starting out in Latin America, Los Espinas began with singer/guitarist Chris Duffy testing out songs and snippets in bars in Mexico, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Columbia. After recording a two track acoustic sampler in Mexico both songs received airplay on LaRockFM and RadioActiva 101.1FM in Nicaragua, Radio U 101.9FM in Costa Rica, and FBi and 2SER in Australia.

Upon returning to Australia, Los Espinas has been expanded with the addition of Phil Curd (Bass), and Christopher Allison (Drums) to fill out the electrified sound, and after playing a handful of shows on Sydney live circuit – and gaining the interest of a few people along the way – Los Espinas spent the dying months of 2015 recording their debut single ‘Shadowboxing‘ along with tracks to make up their debut EP for release in 2016.
