Like the assorted confectioneries that adorn their album and single covers; Minden deal in saccharine sweet pop music that is impossible to stay away from. The Portland outfit first came to our attention with the finger licking track “Artist Statement“.
“Artist Statement” oozes sex appeal and deserves repeated visits but is far from the sole standout moment from the 5-piece’s second album “Sweet, Simple Things“. Elsewhere “Real Sugar“, the album’s opener, is an innuendo filled slower number built on the a neat interplay between frontman Casey Burge and vocalist Lia Gist.
Elsewhere the band tone down, but do not relinquish, the bravado resulting in more introspective tracks like “Love Is Bad” or the title track both of which are slightly less immediate but no less impressive.
In the hands of a lesser band this constant flirtatious tone could have come across as slightly crass but Minden win this with the right amount of sophistication and, I suspect, tongue firmly in cheek.
‘Sweet, Simple Things‘ is out now on Hit City U.S.A
