Mika Hary released the title track from her upcoming album “When Morning” Comes” back in September and I must admit that, as if under a spell, I have found myself returning to it over and over. The track should be listened to on a lazy Sunday morning along with your first coffee or alternatively during a gorgeous sunset with a glass of wine.
Mika relocated to New York City aged 21 after she received a scholarship to the prestigious New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Once she was in the Big Apple she sampled all the musical delights the city had to offer performing at the city’s leading venues and rubbing shoulders with some of it’s most talented performers. It was while she was there that she began to craft the tracks that would make up her debut release.
There’s a captivating lullaby quality to “When The Morning Comes” that is impossible to escape. Sophisticated melodies float in and out of the speakers as the singer/songwriter expresses longing in a very authentic way. Instrumentally, the track builds and builds commencing it’s journey with some hushed tones that are gradually augmented by some wonderful jazz pop instrumentations, courtesy of producer Matt Pierson, that bring to mind the dulcet tones Norah Jones.
So go ahead, brew yourself your favourite morning drink or pour a glass of vino, sit back in your favourite spot and allow Mika to carry you away.
Mika will be performing in Paris on the 22nd of November in support of Balkan Beat Box
