Jenny O. first landed on our radar with her the track “Automechanic“. That track, the opener to her 2013 album of the same name, set the tone for the entire release offering a rich cocktail of haunting vocals and vintage instrumentation. Since that release the talented Californian has never looked back touring with the likes of Father John Misty and Ben Harper.
‘Automechanic‘ was a fairly big departure from the singer/songwriter’s self produced 2011 debut EP ‘Home‘. Now, some years on she returns to that EP’s aesthetic with her latest release ‘Work‘. The vocal delivery is unmissable but Jenny O. adopts a back to basics approach to this one that adds intimacy to the listening experience. Tracks like “Cheer Up, Free Your Mind” and “Be Here Now” effortlessly blend singalong melodies with a folk aesthetic to create exquisite little musical gems.
If you close your eyes it almost feels like you are right there standing besides her in the booth
The ‘Home‘ EP is out now via MANIMAL/Holy Trinity.
