It is fair to say that John Joseph Brill career has been on an upwards trajectory since going solo and moving to Liverpool in 2013. His three EPs have won praise from some of the UK‘s biggest press and with literally millions of streams to his name it is clear music fans are also developing an affection for his strong baritone delivery.
“All Eyes” is the first new release since his ‘I’m Not Alright’ EP and highlights the artist’s versatility. While the distinctive vocal delivery brings to mind The National this track is more in the style of peak Interpol with a slight hint of Future Islands due in part to the cheeky synths. In the hands of someone else, this amalgamation of sounds could sound a tad cliched but Brill manages to sound genuine, delivering great lyrics with admirable urgency.
Brill says of the track:
“I’ve wanted to release a song like ‘All Eyes’ for ages, it was intended as a song for frenzied, Friday night dancing in sweaty indie clubs but one that retains all the darkness of the songs that have come before it. A brooding, moody, sexy, hi-shaker of a song. A song you wouldn’t take home to meet your parents…”
Having supported the likes of Richard Hawley, Carole King, Jenny Lee and Nick Mulvey and played some of Britain‘s best festivals he is now preparing for an extensive UK and European tour in November, including a headline show at The Lexington London, on Monday 20th November
