Steph Copeland unveiled her new take on the old classic “Break It To Me Gently“. The Canadian artist blows new life into the track (originally popularised by Brenda Lee) effortlessly coalescing a slick modern pop production with a vintage feel that succeeds in doing justice to the original while remaining entirely her own.
The undoubted highlight for me is the melancholic vocal delivery that shows a real streak of empathy with the lyrical content, sounding like every word is well and truly meant rather than a hijack of someone else’s sentiment. Ultimately the track succeeds in tugging at the heartstrings while simultaneously offering repeat play value and frankly what more could you ask for.
