‘Figures in a Storm‘ is the first EP from Aidan Tulloch, Cambridge English fresher, prize-winning spoken word artist and now composer.
All the tracks convey genuine emotion through minimal techno and contemporary soundscapes. The stand-out tracks are “Complex Horizonhood” and “The brilliant light of what’s to come”.
“Complex Horizonhood” takes you on a journey like The Chemical Brothers’ “Star Guitar”, but, in this instance, Aidan makes it feel like the journey is more important than the destination through a slower tempo and texture. The “brilliant light of what’s to come” takes the listener out of the dark and to more positive places. The upbeat melody voiced by the Frahm-esque piano and the interwoven drum and synth take the listener away from a dark place referenced by the subtle strings.
Aidan’s next project will be one to look out for as he will incorporate spoken word and lyrics to his music which already says so much on its own.
A brilliant first EP from the young North Yorkshireman.
