I am finding it a little hard to wrap my head around the fact that “Games” is DoPlay‘s first ever single. The track oozes with the confidence showcasing the clear vision and songwriting chops of a veteran artist.
Adopting a less-is-more approach to convey its message, “Games” is the sound I imagine if Hozier was involved in a head on collision with Dennis Lloyd borrowing a penchant for the dramatics from the former and the ability to embed a hook in your head from the latter.
The upcoming ‘Comfort Zone‘ EP, from which this single is taken, is very much a product of these times. The writing and composition process started in early 2020 while DoPlay was studying at Princeton University, and then the world threw a spanner into everyone’s plans. Clearly not one to let time go to waste, the singer-songwriter used the period to enter the studio and record. If “Games” is any indication of what is to come then this was a great decision.
While we eagerly await to find out what 2021 has in store for DoPlay it is worth checking out the accompanying video for “Games”. With the duo of Ofek Avshalom and Rona Bar at the helm and starring dancer Ahinoam Chai, it is a stylish and visually appealing companion to the song.
