The term multi-instrumentalist is often bandied about. In the case of Dez Money it is actually very appropriate. The Los Angeles native has been known to play all the instruments on his albums as well as production duties.
The son of multi-platinum 70s and 80s stalwart Eddie Money it is fair to say music literally flows through Dez‘s veins. Touring with and playing the guitar for his father certainly helped with his musical maturation and songwriting chops but it feels the younger Money‘s sound is not indebted to anyone, while still paying tribute to his father’s legacy.
We first came across his work with the album ‘Blue‘ where tracks like “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” and “I Want Your Love” displayed an intriguing soulfulness and vulnerability. The more recent releases of “Give Me All You Got” and “Trippin’” display his growing confidence and introduce some more complex arrangements and melodic ideas. Throughout, the big ideas serve the song rather than appearing pretentious.
Dez Money songs are often grand but his themes feel accessible and that is a quality that will have listeners come back for more.
