It is a delight to report that The Smile continue their tour de force for the album “A Light for Attracting Attention” with the single “Pana-Vision“. Some commentators have maliciously suggested this is the best Radiohead material in years. Personally, I feel this is actually a compliment to Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood who alongside Sons of Kemet’s Tom Skinner and trusted producer Nigel Godrich have released a set of songs that does not pale in comparison to their impressive back catalogue.
Yorke’s haunting vocals blend seamlessly with Greenwood’s soaring guitar riffs and Skinner’s precise drumming creating a sound that is both haunting and mesmerizing. The track was featured in the final season of Peaky Blinders and is accompanied by a video directed by Anthony Byrne which features a solo scene by Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby on the show. If somehow you have not caught up with the final season then perhaps give this one a temporary miss and stream the song instead.
The band are set to embark on a North American tour and will no doubt feature heavily on the festival circuit. I genuinely hope there is a lot more to come from this trio!
