Midtown – “Cut Your Hair

With a cool blend of Midtown’s signature sound and a dash of slacker cool, “Cut Your Hair” captures the spirit of the original. Midtown prove once again why they are pop-punk favourites, and here they have breathed new life into a beloved classic.

Let’s Eat Grandma – “From The Morning”

Let’s Eat Grandma‘s rendition of Nick Drake‘s “From The Morning” is a breathtaking gem that captures the essence of the original while adding their own unique touch. The song is the most hopeful on ‘Pink Moon‘, and Let’s Eat Grandma‘s version pays homage to the original while adding an electronic touch that strikes a balance between lament and hope. Jenny Hollingworth’s crystalline vocals, combined with the glinting synth and bobbing bassline, create a haunting atmosphere. It’s a truly moving experience that showcases Let’s Eat Grandma‘s ability to create a new classic out of a beloved song.

With contributions from a diverse range of artists, “The Endless Coloured Ways – The Songs Of Nick Drake” promises to be an exceptional tribute album that pays homage to the influential singer-songwriter.

Florence + The Machine – “Just A Girl”

Florence + The Machine‘s cover of No Doubt‘s iconic hit, “Just A Girl,” for the Yellowjackets series has left us in awe. The haunting and deeply unsettling rendition perfectly captures the eerie atmosphere of the show. Florence Welch‘s ethereal vocals, accompanied by Mark Bowen‘s production, create a spine-chilling experience that sends shivers down your spine. As a fan of both Yellowjackets and this era of music, Welch‘s interpretation pays homage to the original while adding a unique twist. The horror elements infused into the song intensify its impact, making it a dream collaboration for pop-punk enthusiasts and Gwen Stefani admirers.

Death Cab For Cutie – “The Plan”

Death Cab for Cutie‘s cover of Low‘s “The Plan” is a moving tribute to the late Mimi Parker. The song, which appears on their new acoustic version of ‘Asphalt Meadows‘, is a heartfelt homage to one of the most influential and important bands in lead singer Ben Gibbard‘s life. The track maintains the purposeful cadence and lyrical reserve of the original, building in power through repetition. Gibbard‘s touchingly affecting vocal acts as both an evocative of the lyric and an outlet for grief. “The Plan” is a beautifully spartan tribute to a remarkable musician and person.
