Kevin Morby, the prolific singer-songwriter known for his introspective and evocative folk-rock sound is back with a mesmerizing companion piece to his 2022 album, “This Is a Photograph“, titled quite appropriately “More Photographs (A Continuum)“. In anticipation of the album, Morby has treated us to two tantalizing singles, “This Is a Photograph II” and “Five Easy Pieces Revisited” which offer a glimpse into the sonic landscapes he has crafted.
Describing the relationship between “This Is a Photograph” and “More Photographs (A Continuum),” Morby explains,
“If This Is a Photograph is a house that you have been living inside of, then More Photographs is, perhaps, the same home just experienced differently. As if you, its inhabitant, have taken a tab of something psychedelic and now, suddenly, you’ve replaced your eyeglasses with kaleidoscopes.”
In his creative process, Morby follows a natural progression, feeling the need to release each collection of songs before moving on to the next project. With this latest release, he embraces the opportunity to tie a bow on the time and place in his creative life that began with “This Is a Photograph.” This album represents a continuation of the ideas and emotions that shaped its predecessor, offering a deeper exploration and expansion of his musical vision.
Consisting of three re-imaginings of songs from “This Is a Photograph,” alongside six brand-new tracks that showcase Morby‘s continued growth and experimentation. The original title track was easily one of our songs of 2022 and through this new lens, Morby offers familiar melodies and lyrics that seamlessly morph into kaleidoscopic wonders,
In addition to his solo endeavours, earlier this year Morby shared his talent as a composer on the soundtrack album for the film “Music From Montana Story.” We described it as “hauntingly beautiful” at the time.
As we eagerly await the arrival of “More Photographs (A Continuum),” we can already appreciate the musical craftsmanship and emotional depth that Kevin Morby brings to his work, unveiling a fresh sonic palette and rich arrangements that blend seamlessly with his distinctive vocals
