Otis Mensah – Bruiser BB
Sheffield-based artist Otis Mensah treats us to an infectious blend of soulful consciousness and British grit with his track “Bruiser BB“. The song, part of his “WINTERSKIN” EP on Berlin-based label Lekker Collective, masterfully weaves an almost mumbled chorus into a hypnotic flow, creating a deceptively relaxed atmosphere which allows the track to land its punches harder.
Produced by Berliner the intern, “Bruiser BB” is a raw exploration of emotions of shame. Mensah, Sheffield’s first Poet Laureate and a trailblazer in the UK hip-hop scene, draws inspiration from Audre Lorde‘s “The Black Unicorn,” infusing the track with poetic lyricism that explores vulnerability and existential struggles. The deceptively simple beat unfolds to reveal layers of complexity, a testament to Mensah‘s nuanced approach to music.
Otis Mensah‘s dedication to breaking down barriers and challenging stereotypes is apparent in “Bruiser BB.” This track, with its fusion of bluesy melody, and chant-like hook, Otis Mensah continues to redefine the intersection of poetry, Hip Hop and experimental music and I am here for it.
Mungmung – “Internet Friends”
Hailing from the vibrant Sydney music scene, MUNGMUNG is looking to step out into the fold and possibly ignite a sonic revolution along the way. Our first introduction to her sound came with “Internet Friends,” a track brimming with edginess, built on a distinctive flow, and a self-effacing yet confidently cocky attitude. This anti-party anthem encapsulates the mood of a generation navigating the intricacies of leading online lives. At just 16, MUNGMUNG penned what is actually a very introspective exploration of the digital age, manoeuvring around pre-agreed notions and throwing shade at numerous internet pitfalls.
Taken from her debut album ‘Boujee Bby‘ the track blends influences from Hip Hop, RnB, and Pop to great effect. Collaborating with friends and family for visuals, MUNGMUNG crafts a visually compelling narrative, avoiding clichés or repetitive metaphors.
In a world dominated by people going through the motions and scanning metrics, “Internet Friends” urges us to unplug and acknowledge that it is all a facade.
Jay Rock & Ab-Soul – “Blowfly”
In a triumphant reunion, Jay Rock and Ab-Soul, two integral members of the Black Hippy supergroup, grace us with the compelling track “Blowfly.” This dynamic duo, with roots dating back 15 years, brings their A-game to this one, reminding us why their collaborations are worth waiting for.
Produced by TDE‘s in-house maestro Kal Banx, “Blowfly” draws inspiration from proto-rap pioneer Blowfly, delivering a rich blend of old-school soul samples and raw lyricism. Jay Rock‘s gritty verses vividly paint Watts’ street scenes, while Ab-Soul‘s infectious hook adds the obligatory head-nodding element.
As fans eagerly anticipate Jay Rock‘s upcoming album, “Eastside Johnny,” “Blowfly” serves as a taste of what’s to come. While some may have hoped for additional verses from Ab-Soul, the overall impact of their collaboration is undeniable. This track cements Jay Rock and Ab-Soul as rap heavyweights who continue to evolve while staying true to their West Coast roots
Kevin Bailey & T$unami811 – “oFF Da LeaSH”
When it comes to hip-hop, Detroit is a city that often speaks to my heart. This continues with ‘T2’, the two-track collaborative release between Kevin Bailey and T$unami811. It kicks off with “oFF Da LeaSH,” a dynamic track fusing menace and playfulness over a beat that reminds me of Three 6 Mafia. Their chemistry radiates, each delivering a distinctive, unhinged flow that perfectly encapsulates their “I don’t give a fuck” attitude. “DiZZy“, The second track from the EP, showcases the duo’s versatility adding a more funky vibe to the mix. Both tracks leave their mark showcasing a commitment to sonic innovation and being just a little strange.
Amid their hometown’s lively music scene, Kevin Bailey and T$unami811‘s performances in the ‘Bad Trip Tour‘ highlight a big jump in their career intentions. With nods from industry figures like MOODY MAN and connections to Danny Brown‘s Bruiser Brigade, they’re solidifying their presence in the city’s scene.
“oFF Da LeaSH” and “DiZZy” stand as a sonic rebellion, boldly asserting Kevin Bailey and T$unami811‘s aim to stand out. This fresh, eccentric sound is a breath of fresh air.

In the ever-expansive universe of The Alchemist‘s prolific career, “Vertigo” stands tall as a testament to his enduring genius. The track, a collaboration with the irreverently witty Action Bronson, unfolds as an adventure through the hazy streets of Alc’s unmistakable production.
The Alchemist‘s journey through hip-hop’s tapestry spans three decades, and “Vertigo” is a glorious pit stop in his 2023 expedition, where he’s unleashed a barrage of collaborative projects.
