Introducing AVTUMNE

Miami, a city famed for its vibrant cultural tapestry and musical legacy, boasts a storied history of producing legendary artists. However, when it comes to exporting alternative rock to the world stage, the spotlight has often bypassed the Magic City. AVTUMNE, with her distinctive sound and bold vision, is poised to change that narrative. Despite sharing Cuban-American heritage with Florida icons like Gloria Estefan and Celia Cruz, AVTUMNE is forging her own path to prominence, one haunting melody at a time.

With her instantly recognisable fiery red hair serving as a striking emblem of her passion and individuality, AVTUMNE commands just as much attention with her captivating music. Drawing inspiration from the raw emotional depth of 90s alternative rock and the contemporary resurgence of female-led indie acts from the likes of Torres, Bully and Francis Of Delirium, she crafts a sound that is simultaneously nostalgic and fresh.

What sets AVTUMNE apart is her ability to channel personal experiences and cultural influences into her music, infusing each composition with a deeply introspective and evocative quality. With a voice that exudes both vulnerability and strength, often within the same sentence, AVTUMNE delivers her poignant lyricism with a raw intensity that resonated with me deeply. Drawing inspiration from her Galician roots, she infuses her songs with folkloric symbolism, creating an overall narrative that is both haunting and intriguing, but undeniably beautiful.

To date, she has released two captivating singles: “Left In October” and “Foreign Green Eyes.” Each offers a unique glimpse into AVTUMNE‘s world, offering listeners an intimate glimpse into her innermost thoughts and emotions and a clear snapshot of the time they were written

We were first exposed to her with her debut single “Left In October“, a moody banger that navigates the complexities of unrequited love and the passage of time. Drawing inspiration from a formative period spent navigating the tumultuous landscape of Washington DC during the COVID-19 pandemic, the track is a poignant reflection on the fragility of human connection. The track channels the aforementioned Torres with its perfect balance of organic and electronic instrumentation and its haunting immediacy. With its edgy bassline and impassioned vocal delivery, “Left In October” captivates from the first note, immersing you in a sound that is equal parts melancholic and cathartic. By the time it finishes, you are totally under her spell.

Foreign Green Eyes,” the follow-up single, takes you on a winding story of love and heartache, all delivered with an endearing vulnerability. The track explores themes of young love, a longing for the feeling of home, experiencing loss, and the comfort that love can so often supply in the midst of uncertainty. Also set around the pandemic, the fact that the song is based on the real-life relationship AVTUMNE had with an international student during her early college years in Washington DC, set against the backdrop of a city in lockdown.

Musically, the track offers a hypnotic guitar progression and a sprinkle of synthesizers that augment the experience. The lo-fi recording works wonders transmitting all of the emotions while not burying the beautiful melodies. Produced in collaboration with Latin Alternative Rock artist Marthin Chan of Afonico Music, the track is a mesmerizing ride from start to finish where luscious guitars collide with pulsating rhythms. You never want it to end.

The more I listen to these songs, one thing is clear: AVTUMNE is an artist on the rise. With her powerful delivery, poetic lyricism, and infectious melodies, she is exactly what I was looking for, and I am glad I found it. There is a clear vision on display with these tracks that bodes well for the future. With indie rock sensibilities returning to the mainstream, there’s no doubt in my mind that AVTUMNE has the potential to leave a lasting impact and go on to great things.

In February she will be releasing her latest single, “Out Of Ammo,” the expectations continue to grow, leaving me eagerly awaiting the next chapter. As AVTUMNE continues to push her boundaries creatively, there’s no telling where her musical journey will take her next.
